This circa 1990 stoneware pub jug stands about 4.5 inches tall and holds 16 ounces of liquid and was created to promote Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky. This collectible pitcher is a great addition to any collection, man cave, or home bar. The Cutty Sark brand is well-known in the whisky industry and this jug is a great way to showcase that. Whisky Jugs were born initially as a marketing and promotional tool by distilleries. Whisky lovers like to add a little drop in the dram to soften the alcohol and sometimes mellow the overall taste. Over the last two hundred years, these "Water Jugs" or "Pub Jugs" have been given away free by distilleries to promote their products. Other advertising jugs or water pitchers are still used to serve water, and more commonly have been used to promote the sales of beers, wines, cigarettes and liquors. The use of jugs as an advertising tool has led to an increase in their production which in turn has led to the many differing designs, colors, shapes, and sizes. This and the the fact that many famous and renowned porcelain manufacturers were enlisted to product them has also seen them become increasingly collectable. Cutty Sark is a blended Scotch Whiskey created on 23 March 1923 as a product of Berry Bros. & Rudd, with the first home of the blend considered to be at The Glenrothes distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland. The name comes from the River Clyde-built clipper ship Cutty Sark, whose name came from the Scots term "cutty-sark", the short shirt prominently mentioned in the famous poem by Robert Burns, "Tam o' Shanter". The drawing of the clipper ship Cutty Sark on the label of the whisky bottles is a work of the Swedish artist Carl Georg August Wallin. He was a mariner painter, and this is probably his most famous ship painting. This drawing has been on the whisky bottles since 1955.
